BORN HULL 1895. SON OF JOHN EDWIN MACKINDER (1866-1939) & ANNIE MARY (SPAVEN) MACKINDER (1868-1929), OF 11 LABURNUM GROVE, WESTMORELAND STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. SON OF AN OIL COOPER. HE WORKED FOR MR H. JOHNSON, NATIONAL OIL WORKS, HIGH STREET, HULL, AS AN OIL MANUFACTURER LABOURER. ALSO A BANDSMAN WITH THE SALVATION ARMY.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, IN DECEMBER 1915. EX PRIVATE, 13/716, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 15/12/1915. HE TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 39103, 2/4TH KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. ACCIDENTALLY KILLED, ON 27/07/1918, AGED 23. BURIED AT MARFAUX BRITISH CEMETERY. HIS BROTHERS JIM & ALBERT ALSO SERVED IN FRANCE. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 20/08/1918.
