BORN HULL 1895. ELDEST SON OF HENRY MANNING (1875-1957) & ADA BROWN (1874-1957) OF 8, CAVE TERRACE, CAVE STREET, HULL & THEN 60 THWAITES, KEIGHLEY, YORKS. SON OF A TANNER. HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND SEVEN SISTERS. WORKED AS AN IRON FOUNDER IN KEIGHLEY, YORKSHIRE.
HE ENLISTED IN HALIFAX. SERVED IN THE 9TH WEST RIDING REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 02/03/1916, AGED 21. COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.
