BORN HULL 1887. SON OF ANTHONY MARR (1840-1906) AND ELLEN BIBBY (1843-1908), OF 21, ANNS PLACE, CHAPMAN STREET, HULL (1901 CENSUS). SON OF A GENRAL LABOURER FROM IRELAND. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS, FOUR SISTERS AND LIVED WITH HIS GRANDMOTHER, ELLEN BIBBY, ALL IN THE SAME HOUSE.

MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1908. HUSBAND OF MARY GERTRUDE REID (BORN 20TH JUNE 1890 – 1969).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. RESIDED IN DARLINGTON. A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE SERVED AS ACTING CORPORAL, WITH THE 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED AT YPRES, ON 5TH MAY 1915, AGED 29. COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, MARY GERTRUDE HOLMES.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON HULL’S WILMINGTON ROLL OF HONOUR, WITH HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, SAMUEL MARR, 10446, 6TH EYR, WHO WAS KILLED AT GALLIPOLI. ON 9TH AUGUST 1915, AGED 34..
