Marshall, Walter Thomas

Born Hull, 1885. Son of Walter & Minnie E Marshall, of 1, Weston Villas, Franklin Street, Holderness Road, Hull.

He joined the 1st Prince of Wales’s Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment, as a Drummer Boy, on 15 Nov 1902, aged 17. He qualified at Keller Music school in 1905 & also played Euphonium & Cello to a good standard. Served in India from 1906-1911. Remained in the Army Reserves.

He married, Laura Martha Atkinson, at York, on 6 Aug 1914. She lived at 50, Skildergate, York & 173, Summergangs Road, Hull (War pension address).

Posted to France, on 15 Dec 1916. Discharged with injuries, on 22 Aug 1917. Served in the army for 14 years and 283 days. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 225363).

After the war, he worked as a Theatre musician, living at 1, Jarvis Square, Charlotte Street, Hull (1921 Census). Employed by Mordons Ltd Grand Theatre, Hull.

He died at Hull, on 16/11/1930, aged 44 and is buried at Hull Hedon Road Cemetery.
