Born Oldham, Lancashire, 1880. Only son of James and Margaret Martin, of 70, Primrose Bank, Oldham, Lancashire (1911 Census). A Cotton Card-room Jobber. He presumably came to Hull to do the same. He enlisted in Hull, but returned to join his hometown regiment, the 1st Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action at Gallipoli, on 04/06/1915, aged 35.
He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
His Army effects were left to his sisters, Alice, Annie and Nellie.
