HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED IN THE 9TH KING’S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/04/1917, AGED 28.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM. HE ALSO LEFT £240 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER, WHO WAS A COMPANY SECRETARY, FOR A LIMITED COMPANY.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE ON HYMERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL AND ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHNS CHURCH, NEWLANDS, HULL.

BURIED AT TILLOY BRITISH CEMETERY, TILLOY-LES-MOFFLAINES, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “OF HULL “SPLENDID YOU PASSED. THE GREAT SURRENDER MADE”
