BORN HULL 30/04/1890. SON OF ELLEN & RUBEN HUDSON MASON, OF 147 BUCKINGHAM STREET, HULL. HUSBAND OF, MARY EDITH MASON, AT 16, MANVERS STREET, HULL. THEY HAD ONE CHILD. SERVED AS SECOND MATE, ON THE STEAM SHIP “FREMONA”. LOST AT SEA ON 31ST JULY 1917, AGED 27. HIS NAME IS LISTED IN THE HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS & ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHNS, NEWLAND, HULL.

FREMONA SS was a British cargo steamer of 3,028 grt built in 1887 by Gourlay Bros. & Co., Dundee, England for the Cairn Line of Steamships Ltd. On the 31st July 1917 she was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine UC-47 when 10 miles NxW of Ille de Batz when on route from Montreal for St. Nazaire & Leith carrying a cargo of grain, flour and lumber.
