Born Leeds, 21/12/1892. Son of John Matson (1863-1956) and Emily Fox, of 66, Hawthorne Avenue, Hull (War Pension address).
He joined the Royal Navy, on 09/02/1911. Described as 5 foot, 3.5 inches tall, 34 inch chest, brown eyes, dark brown hair. Served as a Stoker, on HMS “Good Hope”. Died at sea, during the Battle of the Coronel, on 01/11/1914, aged 22. HMS Good Hope, was lost with all 926 hands in the battle
