BORN DONCASTER 1895. SON OF THOMAS & ELIZABETH JANE MAY, OF 101 WEST PARADE. WIFE EDITH LIVED AT 3 PRINCES AVENUE, WEST DOCK STREET, HULL AND 14 CROMWELL TERRACE, WEST PARADE, HULL. HE WAS A TERRITORIAL AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. POSTED TO FRANCE, IN JUNE 1916. HE SERVED AS A SERGEANT, IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/08/1917, AGED 23. HE WAS KILLED BY A HIGH EXPLOSIVE SHELL, WHILE BRINGING UP THE GUNS.

HE LEFT A WIDOW AND TWO CHILDREN. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 03/10/1917. *

HIS BROTHER, CORPORAL, WILLIAM MAY, RFA, AGED 28, HAD BEEN WOUNDED TWICE AND WAS IN HOSPITAL WITH PNEUMONIA. BROTHERS, JAMES HAOLD MAY (RFA) AND PRIVATE, ALBERT MAY (EYR) ALSO SERVED. HIS WIFE, HAD FOUR BROTHERS, SERVING IN THE ARMY. ONE OF THEM, PRIVATE, H. BENTLEY (RFA) WAS SERVING IN FRANCE.
