BORN SUNDERLAND 1897. SON JANE & LATE MICHAEL McGILL. HIS FATHER WAS A COAL MINER FROM NEWCASTLE. HIS MOTHER, A SHOPKEEPER. HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A CLERK FOR THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT COMPANY, HULL. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 34-38 INCH CHEST, GOOD VISION, GOOD PHYSIQUE.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 26/05/1914. FORMERLY, GUNNER, 152, EAST RIDING ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY (TERRITORIALS). SERVED IN GALIPOLLI & FRANCE. DISCHARGED FROM SHORECLIFFE MILITARY HOSPITAL, WITH LING TUBERCULOSIS, ON O2/02/1918. DIED THREE DAYS LATER, AGED 21. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY, FOR 3 YEARS AND 256 DAYS. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER, JANE.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT AND COKE COMPANY WAR MEMORIAL, KEPT AT THE FAKENHAM GAS WORKS MUSEUM, NORFOLK.
