BORN HULL 1894. SON OF WILLIAM McLACHLAN (1868-1918) & MARY ANN SCALES, OF 8, KINGSTON VILLAS, ESTCOURT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). PRIOR TO ENLISTING, ALLAN McLACHLAN WAS AN APPRENTICE MOULDER AT THE HUMBER BRASS AND COPPER WORKS, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN SEPTEMBER 1914. WENT TO FRANCE JULY 1915. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 12009, “C” COMPANY, 7TH YORKSHIRE HUSSARS. HE WAS KILLED BY A SNIPER, ON THE 3RD AUGUST 1915, AGED 21. HE IS BURIED IN BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “TIL WE MEET AGAIN”. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 13TH AUGUST 1915. *
HIS FATHER DIED AT SEA ON 07/02/1918.
HIS UNCLE, PTE, WALTER HERBERT SCALES, CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE (CEF), WAS KILLED BY A SNIPER, ON 27TH MAY 1915. HIS OTHER UNCLE, PTE ALEXANDER McLACHLAN, CEF, DIED OF WOUNDS IN 1915.
