BORN HULL 1897. SON OF WILLIAM ARTHUR McLEAN (1864-1928) & ALICE McLEAN (1862-1944), OF 14 GLASGOW STREET, HULL AND 5, IVY VILLAS, ROSMEAD STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A POSTMAN. ONE OF SIX CHILDREN. HE WORKED AS A CLERK AND LIVED AT 2, WINSLADE CRESCENT, PERTH STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS).

DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST, GOOD VISION.

SAMUEL WALTER McLEAN (1897-1926), ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 20/11/1914. SERVED WITH THE 1/4TH EYR & DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY AT HOME FOR TWO YEARS & 225 DAYS. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 3/7/1918. TRANSFERRED TO THE 18TH YORK & LANCS REGIMENT AND APPOINTED AS CORPORAL. HE WAS DISCHARGED ON 13/7/1919. MARRIED EDITH MARTINSON AT HULL IN 1923. DIED ACCIDENTENALLY, AT HULL, IN 1926. HIS BROTHER, ALEC MCLEAN, ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 200805, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/04/1918, AGED 22. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE PLOGSTREERT MEMORIAL, HAINAUT, BELGIUM. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM.
