McNeill, Albert Henry

BORN HULL 1894. ONLY SON OF ALBERT JAMES AND ANNIE ELIZABETH McNEILL, OF 18, GORDON STREET, HULL. BROTHER TO ALICE McNEILL. BEFORE ENLISTING HE WORKED AS A CLERK, FOR MESSRS T.W. WILSON. HE WAS ALSO A SUNDAY SCHOOL SCHOLAR, AND CHOIR BOY AT ST MATTHEWS CHURCH, BOULEVARD.

HE SERVED WITH THE 1ST COLDSTREAM GUARDS AND WAS KILLED ON 29TH OCTOBER 1914, AT LANGEMARCK. HIS DEATH WAS NOT CONFIRMED UNTIL 18 MONTHS LATER. A SERVICE WAS HELD FOR HIM AT ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WHEN HIS DEATH WAS CONFIRMED IN 1916. A COMMEMORATIVE MARBLE TABLET WAS ALSO UNVEILED FOR HIM AT THE CHURCH.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 23RD OCTOBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES, MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, AND ON THE ST MATTHEWS CHURCH WW1 MEMORIAL, BOULEVARD, HULL.
