BORN HULL 01/12/1899. SON OF FREDERICK MCWILLIAM (1865-1921) AND KATE BAILLIE (1874-1950) AT 11, FIELD STREET, HULL, (ARMY & WAR PENSION ADDRESS). A CLERK. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS, AND FOUR SISTERS. HIS COUSIN, (MOTHER’S NEPHEW), WILLIAM DIXON, ALSO LIVED WITH THE FAMILY AND MOVED IN WHEN BOTH HIS PARENTS DIED.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 02/03/1916, AGED 18 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4 INCHES TALL, 32 INCH CHEST, “POOR” PHYSIQUE, BLUE EYES, AND BROWN HAIR. HAD SCABIES AND REQUIRED A “SULPHUR VAPOUR BATH”. TRAINED AT COLCHESTER. CALLED UP FOR SERVICE, ON 21/02/1918. POSTED TO THE 9TH WEST RIDING REGIMENT, IN THE FIELD, ON 01/09/1918. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 12/10/1918, AGED 18. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, FREDERICK.
HE IS BURIED AT SELRIDGE BRITISH CEMETERY, MONTAY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THY WILL BE DONE”

HIS COUSIN AND KATE’S NEPHEW WAS ALSO KILLED IN 1918 – CORPORAL, WILLIAM DIXON, 10/1356, 10TH EYR, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 10/04/1918.
