Born Hull, 1890. Son of Isaac and Elizabeth Medcalf, of 189 Buckingham Street, East Hull.
He enlisted in Hull. Formerly, 32/840, Northumberland Fusiliers. Also, served as Private, W. Metcalf, KOYLI (Depot). Died of war wounds, at Money Hill Hospital, Birmingham, on 22/08/1918. Buried at Hull Hedon Road Cemetery. His military Funeral was reported in the Hull Daily Mail, on 01/09/1917. A detachment of East Yorkshire soldiers led the firing party and played the “Last Post”
William lived with his family at 6 Lorne Terrace, Spyvee Street, Hull . Before the war William had worked for the North Eastern Railways, being a Goods porter at the Wilmington station. He was a member of the Hull Temperance Society. He married Annie Eliza Ralph (1888-1968), at Hull, in 1912. He left a widow and daughter, Miriam, at 8, James Terrace, Spyvee Street, Hull (war Pension address).
