BORN HULL 1886. ELDEST SON OF JOSEPH MILBANK (1854-1926) & JULIA AGATHA MANNING (1861-1941), OF 22, BARMSTON STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 77, SEVERN STREET, HULL (HULL DAILY MAIL ADDRESS, 13/11/1917). HE WAS KNOWN AS ‘JACK’. WORKED AS A BRICKLAYER.
HE JOINED THE EAST RIDING TERRIRORIAL FORTRESS ENGINEERS, ON 30/06/1908.
HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBED HIM AS, 5 FOOT, 4 INCHES TALL, 33.5 INCH CHEST, GOOD VISION AND GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 25/06/1908. FORMERLY, SAPPER, 164613, EAST RIDING ROYAL ENGINEERS AND EMPLOYED AS A BRICKLAYER.
HE MARRIED, AMY SAUL MABLESON (1889-1948), AT SCULCOATES, ON 01/04/1913. THEY HAD FOUR CHILDREN AND LIVED WITH HIS PARENTS AT 22, BARMSTON STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL WHEN WAR BEGAN. SERVED WITH THE 11TH LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT, A PIONEER BATTALION. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 23/10/1917, AGED 31. HE IS BURIED AT YPRES RESERVOIR CEMETERY, BELGIUM.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, AMY, WHO MOVED TO NORTH BRIDGE HOTEL, WITHAM, HULL. HE ALSO LEFT PARENTS, BROTHERS & A SISTER.
