Miller, George William

BORN YORK 1891. SON OF GEORGE THOMAS MILLER (1866-1941) & SARAH JANE MILLER, (1868-1941), OF 28, LABURNUM AVENUE, HULL ARMY & (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

A SINGLE MAN. HE HAD ONE BROTHER, FRANK LONSDALE MILLER. HIS ONLY SISTER, WAS HELEN MILLER (1897-1982).

A FORMER SOLDIER AND RECKTT’S LABOURER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 34-37 INCH CHEST, NORMAL VISION AND GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

GEORGE WILLIAM MILLER, ENLISTED ON 4TH DECEMBER 1911. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 5TH AGUST 1915. SERVED IN THE 3RD NORTHUMBRIAN ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS. WHEN HIS ARMY TIME EXPIRED, HE RE-ENLISTED AND RETURNED TO FRANCE AGAIN IN 1916 AND 1918. ATTACHED TO THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.

DISCHARGED WITH TUBERCULOSIS, ON 28TH NOVEMBER 1918 & AWARDED THE SILVER WAR BADGE (N0: B64958). HE DIED AT HULL, ON 6TH OCTOBER 1927, AGED 36 AND IS BURIED AT HULL HEDON ROAD CEMETERY.

HIS NONLY BROTHER, FRANK LONSDALE MILLER. ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 11/08/1910. SERVED WITH THE 1/4 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. POSTED TO FRANCE WITH HIS HIS BROTHER, ON 05/08/1914. WOUNDED IN THE FIELD AND RETURNED TO UNIT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 13/10/1915, AGED 22. HE HAD SERVED FOR 5 YEARS AND 59 DAYS. HE IS BURIED AT CHAPELLE-D’ARMENTIERES NEW MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “LOVED, HONOURED, REMEMBERED”.

BOTH BROTHERS ARE RECORDED ON THE SAME WAR PENSION CARD.
