Moody, William Edward

BORN HULL 1893. SOUTHCOATES. SON OF MRS ANNE ELIZABETH & LATE THOMAS MOODY, OF 48, ST ANDREWS STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD RETURNED FROM WORK IN BUENOS AYRES, ARGENTINA, TO ENLIST WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE WENT TO FRANCE IN APRIL 1915. HE WAS GRANTED 11 DAYS CHRISTMAS LEAVE WHICH WAS HIS FIRST CHRISTMAS AT HOME FOR FIVE YEARS. THREE OTHER BROTHER SERVED, TWO IN THE NAVY AND ONE IN THE ARMY. HIS BROTHER BENJAMIN MOODY, 3RD EYR, DIED TWO MONTHS LATER ON 11/4/16. IT WAS REPORTED THAT WILLIAM EDWARD MOODY WAS ON TRENCH DUTY WHEN HE WAS KILLED ‘ON THE SPOT’. HE WAS A MEMBER OF ST GEORGES ROAD, WESLEYAN CHAPEL, AND DESCRIBED AS A “BRAVE AND PLUCKY FELLOW.” HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH ON 26TH FEBRUARY 1916. *
