Morrod, Albert Edward

BORN HULL 1891. SON OF WALTER & MARGARET MORROD, OF 17, SPENCER STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN ALBERT MORROD WAS A LOCOMOTIVE FIREMAN.

HE ENLISTED HULL. ON 02/11/1914, JOINING THE 2ND EAST RIDING ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. HE WAS DESCRIBED AT 5FOOT 9.5 INCHES TALL, 36 INCH CHEST, ‘GOOD’ PHYSIQUE. ROSE THROUGH THE RANKS AND PROMOTED SERGEANT ON 29/07/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE ANTI AIRCRAFT BATTERY, A NEWLY FORMED UNIT TO PROTECT AGAINST AIR RAIDS. HE DIED AT BIRMINGHAM GENERAL HOSPITAL ON 17/02/ 1918 OF A GASTRIC ULCER, AGED 27. HE WAS UNMARRIED.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, WALTER MORROD. BURIED AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.

HIS BROTHER, LANCE CORPORAL, JOHN MORROD, (EYR), WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL, BRINGING IN WOUNDED, DURING DAYLIGHT, UNDER FIRE (HDM 28/12/1917). HIS BROTHER, PTE. JOHN MORROD, 41ST LABOUR CORPS LIVED AT SAME CWGC ADDRESS.
