BORN LIVERPOOL 1874. SON OF JOHN NEEDHAM (1861-1918) & BRIDGET NEEDHAM (1869-1936), OF LIVERPOOL. HE ENLISTED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY, IN 1901.
MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1918. HUSBAND OF BLANCHE EDNA WILKINS, LIVING AT 15 GOODWIN TERRACE, DAY STREET, HULL (CWGC & WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL IN 1916, GIVING THE AGE OF 35 WHEN HE WAS REALLY 42. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4 INCHES TALL, GREY EYES AND GREY HAIR, TATOOS ON BOTH FOREARMS, “HONEST, SOBER AND HARDWORKING, BUT A BAD MILITARY CHARACTER DUE TO REGULAR ABSENCES”. HE SERVED WITH THE 11TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL PALS). POSTED TO FRANCE BETWEEN 09/06/1916 TO 23/11/1916 AND 08/09/1917 TO 12/11/1917. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY, FOR 2 YEARS AND 262 DAYS. DISCHARGED AS UNFIT FOR SERVICE, ON 02/02/1918, AGED 37 AND 4 MONTHS. DIED OF ASTHMA, FOLLOWING GAS POISONING, ON 13/03/1921, AGED 46. BURIED AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY, IN A CWGC MILITARY GRAVE.
HIS ARMY PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOW, BLANCH EDNA AND THEN TRANSFERRED TO HIS AUNT, MRS SABRINA KAVANAGH, OF 23, HENRY EDWARD STREET, LIVERPOOL WHO BECAME GUARDIAN OF THEIR DAUGHTER, MARY MARGARET NEEDHAM.
