HE MARRIED ON 23/11/1913, AT ST JOHNS THE BAPTIST CHURCH, HULL. HIS WIFE DORRIS MARRITT (1895-1963) & SON, GEORGE HERBERT (BORN 15/06/1914), LIVED AT 13, SELBY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
EMPLOYED AS A GAS WORKER. HE WAS EMPLOYED BY THE BRITISH GAS LIGHT COMPANY AS A COLLECTOR. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 9 INCHES TALL, 35.5 INCH CHEST, 140 LBS, ‘GOOD’ PHYSIQUE.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 04/12/1914, BUT WAS NOT RECALLED TO SERVICE UNTIL 24/05/1916. HE WAS POSTED TO FRANCE ON 30/08/1916. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 23687, 7TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE WAS REPORTED MISSING IN ACTION ON 10/11/1916. HIS DEATH WAS LATER CONFIRMED ON THIS DATE, AGED 28.
HIS WIDOW AND CHILD WERE AWARDED A WEEKLY PENSION OF 18 SHILLINGS AND NINE PENCE, WITH EFFECT FROM, 02/07/1917.
