BORN HULL 1883. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM NEWMARCH (1855-1903) & MATILDA MARY AISTROP (1855-1928), OF 2 LITTLE GOODWIN TERRACE, JANE STREET, HULL.
ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. A TANNER’S LABOURER. HE MARRIED EDITH CLARA UPTON (1882-1957), IN HULL, ON 01/06/1906. THEY LIVED AT 25 CHARLOTTE STREET AND 3 CHAPEL TERRACE, BEAN STREET, HULL, WITH THEIR SONS, ROBERT AND HARRY. BEFORE THE WAR ROBERT WORKED AT HOLMES TANNERY, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL. HE RESIDED AT 3 CHAPEL TERRACE, BEAN STREET, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A SERGEANT, WITH THE 10TH KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION AT THE SOMME, ON 17/09/1916, AGED 34. HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 24TH OCTOBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.*
