Born 1891 • West Hartlepool, Durham. Only son of Anthony (1857-1919) and Elizabeth Lythe Newton, of Station House, 32, Railway Street, Beverley, East Yorkshire (CWGC address). Son of the Beverley Station Master and Goods Agent. He had two sisters, Gertrude and Elsie. Worked as a Ships Draughtsman and was a ship yard office worker. Described as 5 foot, 9 inches tall, 34 inch chest, 128 lbs weight.
He enlisted at Beverley, on 24 Dec 1915. Served in the 21st King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Killed in action, on 17 Sep 1916, aged 25.
Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
