HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY PRIVATE, 27260, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED AS LANCE CORPORAL, 42188. 1ST ROYAL INNISKILLING FUSILIERS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 20/11/1917, AGED 19. COMMEMORATED AT THE CAMBRAI MEMORIAL, FRANCE. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFTTO HIS FATHER, HORACE.
HIS NAME IS INSCRIBED ON A BRONZE PLAQUE AT THE CITY COUNCIL GUILDHALL, TO 27 HULL TEACHERS LOST DURING WW1.
