BORN HULL 07/01/1892. MARRIED HULL 1913. HIS WIFE, LILY (THURSTON) NOEL, AND THREE CHILDREN, LIVED AT 9 LANGDALE CRESCENT, FLINTON STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF GEORGE & CORNELIA NOEL, ALSO OF FLINTON STREET. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR THE HELLYERS FISHING FLEET. HE HAD JOINED THE SERVICE SIX WEEKS AGO, WHEN HE WAS LOST ON A MINESWEEPER, SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING MILFORD. ONE OF THREE BROTHERS LOST AT SEA DURING THE WAR. (HULL DAILY MAIL, 22/11/1917). HIS FATHER WAS ALSO KILLED ON A MINESWEEPER PATROL, ON 11/07/1916
Thuringia, built by Cook, Welton & Gemmell, Ltd., Beverley in 1913 and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British navy trawler of 297 tons. On November 11th, 1917, Thuringia was captured and sunk by torpedoe, by the German submarine U-95 (Athalwin Prinz), off Youghal, Iceland. 14 persons were lost.
