Born at Flemingate, Beverley. Son of William Henry O’Connell (1856-1926) and Mary Ann O’Connell (1857-1918), of 116 Flemingate Beverley; He had four brothers and three sisters.
He worked as a shipyard labourer. He enlisted in the 5th Yorkshire Regiment. Posted to France, on 18/04/1915.
He married at Beverley, in 1917. Husband of Margaret O’Connell (1899-1969), of 5, Lurk Lane, Beverley. They had three daughters, Gladys, Doris and Vera. He died on 11/12/1920, aged 26. Buried at St Martins, Churchyard. His grave inscription, reads “AT REST”.
His brother, Private, Herbert O’Connell, 267, Yorkshire Regiment, was discharged from military service, on 07/05/1916 and died of wounds, on 24/07/1917, aged 31. He resided at 116 and later 66 Flemigate, Beverley.
