Born Whissendine, Rutland, England, 1880. Son of William and Lana Ofield. A Railway Signalman and Army Reservist.
Married at Sheffield in 1913. Husband of Harriet Hollis Slater, of 100, Rutland Road., Sheffield (CWGC address). They had a young daughter, Phyllis, who died on 11th April 1915.
He enlisted in Hull. Went to France, on 10th August 1914. Served in the 2nd King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. died of wounds, on 25/10/1914, aged 34.
Buried at Bethune Town cemetery France. His grave reads, HE DIED THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE
