BORN HULL 1885. SON OF JOSEPH OUNSWORTH (1850-1931) & MATILDA ANN PINDER (1858-1917), OF 81 RAYWELL STREET, HULL. SON OF A BEE HOUSE KEEPER (1911 CENSUS) AND THE SCULCOATES HOTEL, CHARLES STREET, HULL. HE HAD NINE BROTHERS AND THE SISTERS.
BEFORE ENLISTING, “ALF” WAS A BARMAN AND MANAGER OF THE QUEENS HOTEL, IN GREAT THORNTON STREET, HULL. HIS WIFE MARY ELIZABETH OUNSWORTH (1885-1936) & SON LOUIS, AND DAUGHTER STELLA, LIVED AT 2 SEAMANS AVENUE, MULGRAVE STREET. HE SERVED AS PRIVATE, 44205, 10TH KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 07/05/1917, AGED 34.
HIS BROTHER, SERGEANT, FRANK OUNSWORTH, WAS CALLED UP AT THE START OF WAR. SERVED AS A MEDICAL SERGEANT, IN THE 1ST STATION HOSPITAL, ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS AND DIED ON 20/05/1917, AGED 32. THEIR MOTHER HAD DIED ON 01/03/1917. ANOTHER BROTHER, NORMAN OUNSWORTH DIED IN 1918, AGED 20.
