BORN TICKTON, BEVERLEY, 1894. SON OF AGNES (1866-1932) & ROBERT OVERMENT (1858-1920), OF KIRK ELLA. FROM A FARMING FAMILY. HE WORKED AS A GARDENER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 9.5 INCHES TALL, 35.5 INCH CHEST, GOOD CHARACTER

HE MARRIED AT NEWINGTON CHURCH, HULL, ON 22/05/1915. HIS WIFE LAURA (STATHER) LIVED AT 7, LANGDALE CRESCENT, FLINTON STREET, HULL AND 10 NEPEAN GROVE, TYNE STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS).

HE HAD ENLISTED ON 19/04/1915. TRAINED AT RIPON AND SALISBURY PLAIN CAMPS. SERVED AS A GUNNER, WITH THE 32ND HULL DIVISIONAL AMMUNITION COLUMN, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY.

POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 28/03/1916. RETURNED TO ENGLAND, ON 14/09/1916. HE WAS DISCHARGED, ON 09/10/1916, WITH TUBERCULOSIS, WHICH HE HAD CONTRACTED WHILE SERVING. HE DIED ON 03/01/1919, AGED 25. HE IS BURIED IN TICTON. NO CWGC RECORD.

HE LEFT A WIDOW AND TWO DAUGHTERS, ONE OF WHICH DIED IN INFANCY ALSO IN 1919.
HIS BROTHER, ARTHUR OVERMENT, 2417, 240709. YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, ALSO DIED OF WOUNDS, IN 1919, AGED 23. THEIR FATHER ROBERT, DIED A YEAR LATER.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TICKTON WW1 MEMORIAL CROSS.
