BORN MANCHESTER 1883. SON OF GEORGE OWEN (1860-1920) AND ANNIE LLOYD (1862-1930). ELDEST OF NINE CHILDREN.
HE MARRIED REBECCA MULLIN (1886-1964), AT ST PHILIPS, MANCHESTER, ON 04/09/1909. EMPLOYED AS A COKE STOKER.
HE ENLISTED MANCHESTER. SERVED AS COMPANY SERGEANT MAJOR, 7903, 11TH LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS. HE WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL (DCM) ON 14/11/1916 FOR, “ADVANCING ALONE ALONG AN ENEMY TRENCH AND THEN COLLECTING A FEW MEN DEALT WITH THE ENEMY. HE DISPLAYED GREAT COURAGE AND DETERMINATION THROUGHOUT, SETTING A FINE EXAMPLE.” HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/04/1918, AGED 38. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE HULL TECHNICAL COLLEGE, PARK STREET MEMORIAL. HE LEFT A WIDOW REBECCA AND SON ALBERT EDWARD OWEN BORN 1910. THEY MOVED TO LONDON AND LATER EMIGRATED TO QUEENSLAD, AUSTRALIA ON 14/05/1925 (PENSION RECORDS).
