BORN HULL 1894. SON OF ALFRED & JANE OWEN, OF 43 BRUNSWICK AVENUE, HULL. EDUCATED AT CLIFTON STREET SCHOOL AND HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL, HE WORKED FOR THE STATE INSURANCE COMPANY AND LATER MANAGED HIS FATHER’S GROCERY BUSINESS IN BRUNSWICK AVENUE. HE JOINED THE FORCES IN 1915. HE HAD JUST REURNED TO FLANDERS AFTER 10 DAYS LEAVE WHEN HIS DEATH TOOK PLACE. HIS GUN CREW RECEIVED A DIRECT HIT WHILE FIRING. HE WAS AS A BOY CONNECTED WITH THE WESLEYAN CHURCH SUNDAY SCHOOL ON BEVERLEY ROAD AND A MEMBER OF THE BOYS BRIGADE. HE OFTEN ACTED AS A DEPUTY ORGANIST AT CHURCH SERVICES. HE IS REMEMBERED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL MEMORIAL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 13TH AUGUST 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
