BORN HULL 1898. SON OF OWEN OWERS & ANN ELIZABETH CURTIS. SON OF A COMPOSITOR. EDUCATED AT HULL’S DAY STREET SCHOOL. JOINED THE 4TH EYR, ON 02/11/1914. TRANSFERRED TO THE MACHINE GUN CORPS, IN MARCH 1916. WENT TO FRANCE IN JULY 1916. WAS KILLED AT ARRAS, ON 05/04/1918, AGED 20. BURIED IN BIENVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY, SOUTH WEST OF ARRAS. HE WAS UNMARRIED. HIS COMMANDING OFFICER, WROTE, “HE HAD SERVED LONG AND WELL, PROVING HIMSELF A GOOD COMRADE AND BRAVE SOLDIER.”
HIS DEATH WAS RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 4, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT BIENVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “FROM THE CROSS TO THE CROWN”.
