HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY GUNNER, 115 EAST RIDING RGA. TRANSFERRED TO THE 46TH SIEGE BATTERY, RGA. PROMOTED TO CORPORAL. KILLED IN ACTION, AT YPRES, ON 31/10/1917, AGED 21. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER ROBERT WHO WAS ALSO SERVING AS A GUNNER.
HE LEFT BROTHERS, ROBERT LACEY, AND SYDNEY, AND SISTERS, MAUD AND ALICE.
HE IS BURIED AT MENIN ROAD SOUTH MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “MAKE HIM TO BE NUMBERED WITH THY SAINTS IN GLORY EVERLASTING”
