Padgett, William Frank

BORN HULL 02/02/1898. ONLY SON OF WILLIAM HENRY PADGETT & ADA JANE PADGETT, OF 195 DE LA POLE AVENUE, HULL, 118 ST GEORGES ROAD, HULL (NAVAL RECORDS ADDRESS) AND 51, BOULEVARD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A MASON AND MILLER’S CLERK. THIRD OF FOUR CHILDREN. HE HAD THREE SISTERS.

HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL NAVY ON 22/08/1916. LOST ON HMS “PARAGON”, SUNK 17/03/1917, AGED 19. COMMEMORATED ON THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL.

HMS PARAGON, British, Acasta class Destroyer Torpedoed by German torpedo boat S-49 and G-86 that were planning to destroy the Dover Barrage with Sperrbrecher TILLESSEN. HMS PARAGON was hit by a torpedo and gunfire and broke in half within eight minutes and sank. Some of her own depth charges exploded killing some of the survivors. 76 lived were lost.
