Lieutenant, John William Palmer, 12th Rifle Brigade

BORN NORTON, YORKS, 1887. ONLY SON OF GEORGE & RACHEL (STABLER) PALMER, OF  THE CLIFFE, HESSLE, HULL. HE HAD THREE SISTERS – RACHEL, MAY & FLORENCE. HE LIVED IN TICTON, FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND WAS EDUCATED AT ST MARY’S BOY’S SCHOOL, BEVERLEY.

HE WAS MARRIED, BUT HAD NO CHILDREN. EMPLOYED BY THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, COMPANY, IN HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN 1914. RAPIDLY GAINED PROMOTION AND WAS GAZETTED A FULL LIEUTENAT, IN DECEMBER 1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, IN SPRING 1917. HE SERVED WITH THE 12TH RIFLE BRIGADE. WOUNDED ON THE 24/09/1917. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 25/09/1917, AGED 29.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HUKLLDAILY MAIL, ON 02/10/1917 AND  28/09/1918.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH.
