Fred Parkinson, a “Grimsby Chum”, killed on 1st July 1916

BORN HULL 1896. SON OF HENRY PARKINSON (1872-1939) AND MAUD SIMPSON (1872-1943), OF 10 EDWARD STREET, CLEETHORPES, GRIMSBY (CWGC ADDRESS). HE HAD ONE BROTHER AND ONE SISTER. EMPLOYED AS A GROCER’S APPRENTICE.

HE ENLISTED AT GRIMSBY. SERVED AS PRIVATE, FRED PARKINSON, 1215, 10TH LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED ON 01/07/1916, AGED 21. COMMEMORATED AT THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE.

HIS BROTHER, STANLEY PARKINSON (1897-1917), SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE, AS A DECKHAND ON THE TRAWLER “CALVIA”.  HE WAS ACCIDENTALLY KILLED, BY A GUN EXPLOSION, ON 19/11/1917, AGED 20. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL. THEY WERE BOTH THEIR PARENTS ONLY SONS. THEY LEFT A YOUNGER SISTER, CALLED MAUD.
