BORN HULL 1895. SON OF CHARLES FREDERICK PENNY (1865-1939) & MARY ANN BAILES (1874-1923), OF 35, ARTHUR STREET, HULL. ONE OF FIVE CHILDREN. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. HIS SISTER. MRS ELLEN PHILLIPS. LIVED AT 3, LOUISA TERRACE, ST GEORGES ROAD, HULL.

BEFORE THE WAR, HE WORKED FOR RANK FLOUR MILLS.

HE ENLISTED IN 1915. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 27/10/1915. SERVED WITH THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, AT TRELON, WHILST A PRISONER OF WAR, ON 20/09/1918, AGED 23.

HE MARRIED IN 1918. HIS WIFE, ANDREA CHRISTIANSON (1896-1976), LIVED AT ROSAMOND STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL AND 14, SARAH ANN’S TERRACE, WALKER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIFE, ANDREA.

HE IS BURIED AT GLAGEON COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, NORD, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “DUTY NOBLY DONE”.
