BORN HULL 22/09/1893. SON OF GEORGE PETHERBRIDGE (1856-1934) & JANE GASCOIGNE NICHOLSON (1857-1897), AT 13, SOMERSET STREET, HULL (CWGC NAVAL ADDRESS). HIS MOTHER DIED IN CHILD BIRTH AND HIS FATHER REMARRIED. HE MARRIED IN JANUARY, 1916. HIS WIFE NORAH WILLIAMS (1893-1947) & TWO SONS, LIVED AT 78, REDBOURNE STREET, HULL & 14, HYDE PARK TERRACE, WALCOTT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HIS BROTHER, FRANK PETTHERBRIDGE, DIED ON THE TRAWLER, ‘EDWARD B CARGILL’ MINED OFF SPURN POINT, ON 15/11/1915. HIS HALF BROTHER, DAVID CYRIL PETHERBRIDGE, WAS LOST ON THE HMT “Strathlochy”, ON 19/09/1918, AGED 21
On October 27th, 1918, the British steam trawler NEPTUNIAN (H626), built in 1913 by Cochrane & Sons Shipbuilders Ltd. and owned at the time of her loss by East Riding Steam & Fish, and based at Larne, sank and was lost after a collision 5 miles off Altacarry Lighthouse, Rathin Island, following a collision with the HM trawler LORD LISTER (FY1568).
Eight survivors were picked up by the LORD LISTER and landed at Londonderry.
