BORN HULL 1889. SON OF MORTIMER PETTY (1852-1931) & SARAH HALLAM DARNLEY (1852-1933), OF 80 SUNNY BANK, SPRING BANK WEST, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A SCHOOLMASTER. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS, LIVING AT 80 SUNNY BANK, SPRING BANK WEST HULL.
HE LIVED AT AT ETON HOUSE SCHOOL, 3 ALBANY STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE WENT TO LONDON UNIVERSITY.
POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 30/05/1916. SERVED AS A SECOND LIEUTENANT, IN THE 5TH SHERWOOD FORESTERS. DIED OF WOUNDS, IN “GERMAN HANDS”, ON 17/07/1916, AGED 27. BURIED IN FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “BECAUSE I LIVE YE SHALL LIVE ALSO”.
HE LEFT £234 IN HIS WILL TO HIS RETIRED FATHER, MORTIMER PETTY, WHO MOVED TO KINDER COTTAGE, BRADWELL, DERBYSHIRE, UK (PROBATE ADDRESS).
HIS BROTHER, JOHN DARNELEY PETTY ENLISTED AS A PRIVATE 10/1099, 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND WAS COMMISSIONED AS LIEUTENANT, IN THE WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.
