BORN GALSGOW, 14/11/1892. SON OF JAMES THOMPSON PHILLIPS & CATHERINE DOHERTY, OF 66 HERBERT AVENUE, KEW BEACH, TORONTO. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. THE FAMILY EMIGRATED TO TORONTO, IN 1911. HE WORKED IN A TAILOR SHOP (1911 CANADIAN CENSUS) AND AS A CLERK (ARMY RECORDS). DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 33-35 INCH CHEST, “SWARTHY COMPLEXION”, DARK BLUE EYES, FAIR HAIR, PRESBYTERIAN RELIGION.
HE ENLISTED ON 22/09/1914. SERVED IN THE CANADIAN ENGINEERS. A REPATRIATED PRISONER OF WAR. HE DIED OF PNEUMONIA, AGED 25, IN HULL. BURIED HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY.
HIS BROTHER, JAMES THOMPSON PHILLIPS, ALSO SERVED WITH THE CANADIANS AND WAS KILLED ON 25/10/1916, AGED 26 (CWGC RECORDS).
