Percy Edwin Platt, RFA

BORN HULL 1896. SON OF WILLIAM ROBERTPALTT (1856-1916) & MARY ANN GELDER (1854-1926) OF 227 HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL AND NOW FAIRVIEW AVENUE, HALCYON, HESSLE. HE HAD TEN BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER. WAS ONE OF SIX SONS SERVING IN THE WAR.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE HESSLE OLD BOYS FOOTBALL CLUB AND THE HESSLE PRIMITIVE CRICKET CLUB AND THE FIRST MEMBER OF THESE TEAMS TO BE KILLED.

PERCY JOINED AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 12/05/1915. SERVED WITH THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLEY. HE HAD BEEN IN FRANCE FOR TWO YEARS AND SEEN THE BATTLES OF LOOS, FESTUBERT AND THE SOMME.  HE WAS AGED 21 WHEN KILLED IN ACTION, ON 24/04/1917. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 5TH MAY 1917. *

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH.

HIS BROTHER, HAROLD PLATT, SERVED AS PRIVATE, 30900, 7TH EYR AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 05/11/1916, AGED 22.
