Postill, John Henry

BORN HULL 1894. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM POSTILL (1859- 1936)  & FANNY GILBERT POSTILL (1871-1919), OF 52 MYTON STREET, HULL  (CWGC & WAR PENSION ADDRESS).  ELDEST OF SEVEN CHILDREN. HE WAS A PAINTER, LIVING AT 4 WHITBY GROVE, WHEELER STREET, HULL  (1911). HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS LANCE CORPORAL IN THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/09/1916, AGED 22.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE. HE IS REPORTED KILLED ON THE OSBORNE STREET ROLL OF HONOUR (HDM 23/10/1916).

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER JOHN, WHO MOVED TO 9 VILLAGE PLACE, OSBORNE STREET, HULL.

HIS BROTHERS, HAROLD AND JOSEPH POSTILL ALSO SERVED IN THE WAR.
