BORN ST GEORGE’S, ESSEX 1890. HE HAD NO KNOWN PARENTS AND WAS RAISED IN AN ORPHANAGE. HE MIGRATED TO HULL WHEN HE WORKED CLEANING RAILWAY ENGINES. HE BOARDED AT THIS ADDRESS. ENLISTED HULL. KILLED IN ACTION 13/11/1916. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO STEP BROTHER, SAPPER, GEORGE HOPE, RE’S, AT THIS ADDRESS.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE THOMAS PULLINGER 12/323. Born in St. George’s, Middlesex in April 1890, Thomas was an orphan from an early age his only family being a step-brother, George Hope, with whom he lived at 268 Alliance Avenue, Hull. A Marine Fireman by trade he enlisted at City Hall on 16th September 1890 joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 3rd Hull Pals. He had issues with alcohol and indiscipline from the start and was four times sentenced to 14 days Field Punishment No.1 for being drunk, one in Egypt and a further three times after the Pals had landed in France. Thomas was killed in action at Serre, on the Somme, 13th November 1916. George Hope also served, he was a Sapper with the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers and survived the war.
