BORN HULL 1887. SCULCOATES. SON OF CHARLES RACEY (1861-1896) AND ELLEN RACEY (1861-1896), OF 192 HIGH STREET, HULL (1891 CENSUS). HIS FATHER WAS BORN IN BATTERSEA, LONDON. HIS MOTHER WAS BORN IN HULL. HIS FATHER WORKED AS A BARGE LIGHTERMAN ON THE RIVER HULL (1891) AND AS A MERCHANT SEAMAN, WHO LATER DIED AT SEA. BOTH HIS PARENTS DIED IN 1896 WHEN HE WAS ONLY NINE YEARS OLD.
BROTHER TO THOMAS RACEY (1884-1939) AND HANNAH (BORN 1889). HE WAS RAISED IN NEWLAND HOMES ORPHANAGE, HULL.
HE MARRIED AGNES SNEE (1889-1911), AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN 1908. THEIR SON CHARLES DIED AGED ONE IN 1909. HIS WIFE AGNES DIED IN 1911.
DURING THE WAR, CHARLES RICHARD RACEY, SERVED AS PRIVATE, 50613, 2ND SUFFOLK REGIMENT AND WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY, TWICE. HE DIED OF GAS WOUNDS, AT HOME, ON 14/03/1921, AGED 34. HE IS BURIED IN A CWGC GRAVE AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY. HIS WAR PENSION ADDRESS WAS 2 BLANKET ROW, QUEEN STREET, HULL.
HIS NEXT OF KIN WAS HIS BEST FRIEND, ROBERT GOSTELON (MERCHANT SAILOR), WHO GREW UP WITH HIM AT THE HULL ORPHANAGE.
