JOHN RAETTIG ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A DRIVER, WITH THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. WAS KILLED AT YPRES, ON 17/03/1916, AGED 19. UNMARRIED. HE LEFT AN ELDER BROTHER MAX,WHO SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY, AND SISTERS, BERTHA, AGNES, EVA AND EDITH. HIS OTHER BROTHER, RALPH ARTHUR RAETIG, WAS SECOND MATE, ON THE STEAMSHIP ‘ELVE’, AND WAS LOST AT SEA, ON 11/10/1917, AGED 23
HIS NAME IS RECORDED, WITH HIS BROTHER, RALPH, ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH.
