BORN SWINTON, LANCASHIRE, 1897. SECOND SON OF REVEREND CANON, STEPHEN ADYE SCOTT (1865-1928) & MARGARET KING RAM (1870-1956), OF ST MARYS VICARAGE, LOWGATE, HULL (1911 CENSUS & ARMY MEDAL ROLL ADDRESS) & 8, ST PETERS GROVE, YORK (CWGC ADDRESS). HIS FATHER WAS VICAR OF ST MARYS CHURCH, LOWGATE FOR 25 YEARS.

HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND A SISTER. HE WAS EDUCATED AT HYMERS, HAILEBURY AND PEMBROKE COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE.

ENLISTED AS AS LANCE CORPORAL, INNS OF COURT, OFFICER TRAINING CORPS. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 25TH MAY 1916. SERVED AS 2ND LIEUTENANT, IN THE 26TH MANCHESTER REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SOMME BATTLE, 01/07/1916, AGED 19. COMMEMORATED ON THE  THIEPVAL MONUMENT.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON ST MARY’S CHURCH ROLL OF HONOUR, LOWGATE, HULL & HULL’S HYMERS COLLEGE MEMORIAL.

THERE IS ALSO A MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO HIM AT ST NICHOLAS CHURCH, ROSSENDALE, LANCASHIRE, WHICH READS “IN MEMORY OF/ PERCIVAL JOHN RAM/ 2ND LIEUTENANT MANCHESTER REGIMENT/ WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT MAMETZ/ 1ST JULY 1916”
