BORN HULL 1893. SON OF WILLIAM HENRY RAMM (1857-1940) & MARY ANN RAMM, OF 6, KOTTINGHAM AVENUE, BEVERLEY ROAD (1911 CENSUS), AND 44 , FLEET STREET, STEPNEY LANE, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE HAD FIVE SISTERS AND ONE BROTHER. EMPLOYED AS A LABOURER. ALTHOUGH UNMARRIED, HE HAD A DAUGHTER, NORA.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, SERVED WITH THE 5TH BORDER REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 04/07/1917, AGED 24. HE IS BURIED IN FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, CLARA CROOKS, OF 7, EBOR TERRACE, NORWOOD STREET, HULL. SHE WAS GUARDIAN OF HIS DAUGHTER NORA RAMM. HER CLAIM TO HER BROTHER’S WAR PENSION WAS REFUSED AS SHE WAS ALREADY MARRIED.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON ST MARY CHURCH MEMORIAL, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL

HE IS BURIED AT GUEMAPPE BRITISH CEMETERY, WANCOURT, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “ONE OF THE BEST”.
