BORN HULL 10/04/1889. SON OF JOSEPH HENRY RILEY (1838-1905) & CHARLOTTE ANDERSON EVERITT (1858-1932), OF 14, CLYDE TERRACE, SITWELL STREET, HULL, AND 62, ENGLISH STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO OLDER BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.
LIVED IN HULL AND WAS A BAKER WHEN HE JOINED THE ARMY. HE ENLISTED BRISTOL, ON 27/03/1907.
A REGULAR ARMY SOLDIER, WHO HAD SERVED IN MALTA AND INDIA. WITH THE 2ND RIFLE BRIGADE. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 9.5 INCHES TALL, 156 LBS WEIGHT, 36-38 INCH CHEST, BROWN EYES, BROWN HAIR, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.
POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 04/11/1914. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 08/12/1914, AGED 25. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 7 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE SHARED WITH HIS MOTHER, CHARLOTTE AND ALL SIBLINGS.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED AS KILLED ON THE SYKES STREET, ROLL OF HONOUR. (Hull Daily Mail 09 October 1916).
