BORN BOOTLE, LIVERPOOL, 1894. SON OF FRANCIS HENRY & MARY JANE ROBB 15 BRUNSWICK AVE, GROSVENOR STREET AND 69 ST PAULS STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE SERVED IN NO: 3 TROOP, “B” SQUAD, 12TH LANCERS, 5TH CAVALRY BRIGADE. POSTED TO FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, HE WAS WOUNDED IN 1914 AND SAW MUCH ACTION, WHICH HE DESCRIBED IN A LETTER PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 27/11/1914.
HE WAS ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED ON 15/09/1915, AGED 21. ON ACTIVE SERVICE, WHEN HIS BRIGADE WAS CROSSING A CANAL AT NIGHT AND HIS BOAT OVERTURNED. IT IS BELIEVED HE HIT HIS HEAD ON THE UPTURNED BOAT AND WAS MADE UNCONSCIOUS. THE TRAGEDY WAS INCREASED BY THE FACT THAT PTE. ROBB HAD BEEN GIVEN A WEEKS LEAVE TO GET MARRIED AND WAS EXPECTED HOME IN A FEW DAYS. HE WAS ONLY 21 AND HAD BEEN OUT AT THE FRONT SINCE THE OUTBREAK OF WAR. HIS FATHER WAS SERVING WITH THE 5TH EYR CYCLISTS IN ALDBOROUGH. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 21ST SEPTEMBER 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 25TH SEPTEMBER 1915, WITH A PHOTOGRAPH. *
BURIED: BLARINGHEM CHURCHYARD, NORD, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE IS INSCRIBED “IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR DEAR BOY WHO GAVE HIS LIFE FOR KING AND COUNTRY”
