MINNIE HAD AN AFFAIR WITH WILLIAM GOOD & WAS DIVORCED ON 06/08/1900. HE RE-MARRIED AT HULL, IN 1906, AGED 34. HIS NEXT WIFE, MARY HANNAH “POLLY” SPENCE, LIVED AT 146 CLUMBER STREET & 12 LISTER STREET, HULL.
HE SERVED AS FIRST ENGINEER, ON THE STEAM SHIP, ‘POLO’. LOST AT SEA, ON 12/02/1918, AGED 46. HE LEFT £246 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW, POLLY, AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE ST MARKS STREET MEMORIAL.AND IN THE HULL MERCHANT NAVY MEMORIAL BOOK.
HIS SON PRIVATE, ALFRED JAMES ROBINSON, 201917, 1/4TH EYR, DIED AT LICHFIELD MILITARY HOSPITAL, ON 31/10/1918, AGED 23.
SS Polo, built by Earle’s Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd., Hull in 1913 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman’s Wilson Line, Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 1383 tons.
On February 12th, 1918, Polo, on a voyage from Hull to Alexandria with a cargo of coal and general cargo, was sunk by the German submarine UB-57 (Johannes Lohs), 6 miles SExE of St. Catherine’s Point. 3 persons were lost.
